DBT Skills Group for Adults
Hosted by Mari Lallier, LPCC

DBT stands for Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Marsha Linehan created this evidence-based treatment for herself and addressed the needs of clients who have trouble with impulsivity, intense mood fluctuations, interpersonal communication skills, being mindful, and tolerating distress. It is a skill-based group focusing on 4 different modules: Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Relationship Skills, and Emotion Regulation. This group will focus on learning skills for everyday life to build a life worth living.

The module being offered is the Distress Tolerance Module which is broken into two parts. Part 1: Crisis Survival Skills: These skills will help you manage and tolerate being in a state of crisis or a crisis situation. With crisis survival skills you will learn to manage a crisis effectively at the moment, to remain focused on long-term goals, and to remain closer to a place of balance. Part 2: Accepting Reality Skills: These skills will help you tolerate difficult situations and emotional pain when the problems cannot be solved right away. This module will focus on managing symptoms such as difficulty calming down once you become upset, self-harming behaviors, avoidance of painful emotions, and isolation from others.
